For the university course “Understanding the Media”, our groups were tasked with creating a digital product like a podcast or magazine, and using said product to explain one of the theories of communication. Our group chose the theory of uses and gratifications and used a docu-series focused on the employment of social media as a tool by our politicians during the most recent 2020 general elections and how it aided their campaigns.

Project Overview
The footage was taken from much of the social media videos and news broadcasting during the 2020 elections. The script revolved around politicians used social media and the hashtag #Decision2020 for the general elections. The Jamaican government had been vocal about poor voter turnout and experimented with presenting a more relatable image in-fitting with the same culture they vilify.
I ran into a few challenges in creating this trailer, one of which being the quality of much of the footage used. I had to dig through a lot of social media posts to find posts depicting the situations described and much of it has been compressed by the social media platforms.
